Converting The Garage Into a Playroom

Do you have children and you’re tired of having their toys and such all over the house, or maybe you have an in home daycare and just want a place for the kids to be able to play and be kids without the worry of messing up your home. You can easily transform your garage into a fun and safe playroom for the little ones to roam and play and have fun in, this transformation is not as big of a deal as you think it would be.

Neighborhood Garage Door Services would like to share with you some some tips and tricks on how to easily convert your garage space. This project is really not as scary as you think it may be, so don’t be afraid to give it a shot.

Why Choose The Garage?

Some people never think of repurposing their garage at all let alone into an area meant for kids to use as a playroom. A garage is the perfect place especially if you are not wanting to make any major structural changes to the house or adding on to the home. The garage is kind of closed off from the house so it can be hidden away when you have company over or if it’s messy, it also helps control the noise produced by the kids because it is like it’s own private room.

Step #1: Choose A Paint Suited For The Room

paint your garage the right color

Most of the time the garage walls are concrete so you can not use just any paint on them, you will need to get a special paint such as concrete and garage floor paint which you can find at just about any paint store. If you have a theme chosen for the room then you will want to try and pick a color that goes with it, so let’s say you are going for a jungle theme then yellow or green would be a good color. If you have decided not to go with a certain theme then try to choose a fun color that makes the room look bright and cheerful.

Step #2: Comfortability

While converting this industrial and style garage into a fun and happy place you will need to think about how to tackle the garage door issue and how to make it look more like a room than a garage. By choosing the right style of garage door it can make any garage look like any other room in the house, it would also be a good idea to choose a garage door that has good insulation to help keep the room warm in the winter as well as cool in the summer.

You also need to think about the garage door opener as well, make sure that the wall mounted openers are placed up high and out of the way so that little hands will not be tempted to play with them. You may also choose to make the door inoperable by disconnecting the wires to it. . By keeping the door you are able to get all the advantages of having a wall there without having to remove the garage door and build a wall there, also with a nice row of windows placed at the top of the garage door you can also let in some nice natural light.

Step #3: Decorate

turn your garage into a playroom

It would be a great idea to have a nice soft and cushiony floor that is safe and fun for kids of all ages, you can order these floors online or at most big retail stores. There are a lot of different soft and kid friendly floors out there, go with something fun like a brightly colored interlocking floor or a cool puzzle type flooring style. Those soft floors will also help to reduce the amount of noise that can be heard outside the room as well as inside.

Another great way to decorate your new space is with some wall cling stickers, if you have a theme for the room then you can find some that go with the theme that you have chosen. If you do not have a chosen theme then you could just find some kid friendly ones such as alphabet letters or some fun zoo animals, either of these would be great for kids.

Storage is another key item that is very important especially when it comes to a child’s area, children have a lot of toys and belongings and it is important to keep them all organized and out of the way. You will want good storage containers that will continue to grow with them as they grow older.

Neighborhood Garage Door Services of St. Louis, Missouri wants you to know that converting your garage into an awesome child’s playroom is really not that hard and is nothing that you should be afraid to try!!!!

They sent Doug Fussell out to my house on the day after Christmas! I had only called them three days before! Doug was a premier technician, very thorough and very efficient. I expected him to take two days, since he was replacing two doors and adding openers on each door. He only took the daylight hours of one day! I could not believe how fast he was! In addition, he thoroughly taught me how to use the remote openers. I highly recommend them to anyone!

We just bought a home and this company was so understanding as I had to change the appointment time a few times. Then the tech came out and was so kind and helpful. I could not have asked for a better experience and will suggest them to anyone who needs work done on their garage door!

My garage door broke on a Saturday night as I was getting ready to leave for a holiday party. Kelvin was here within 30 minutes. He reviewed everything with me that was happening with my door. He gave me the estimates of what was immediately needed to be done in order for my door to raise and then what I will need to have done very soon. I could see all the problems he pointed out to me and I decided to have everything done. He completed everything that night. I was very satisfied with Kelvin’s professionalism and the work he did. Thank you again.
