How Do I Prevent Garage Door Breakins?

Your garage door is susceptible to being broken into. In order to safeguard your garage, the team at Neighborhood Garage Door Repair has a few suggestions for you. It doesn’t take much to keep your garage safe. Just do these few things and you can keep this area from being a point of entry to your home.

Replace Openers Manufactured Before 1993

If your garage door opener was manufactured before 1993, then it is time for you to get an upgrade. Older openers put you at risk for someone being able to hack your code. Before 1993, there was only one way of coding the signal on your opener. Now, we have rolling codes on openers to keep someone from scanning it and being able to open your door.

Hide Your Remote in Your Car

It is always a good idea to hide your car remote and lock your car doors. If you park out on the street or in your driveway, someone can break into your car and then into your house. There are also openers on the market that will allow you to open the door using your smartphone. This is an even safer way of operating your system

Install a Lock Button

A side lock is installed on the inside of your garage. When you use the lock, it will engage a steel rod into the vertical rail on the back of the door. This will keep anyone from being able to open it, even with a remote. They must have access to the lock on an app on their phone.

Add a Zip Tie to Your Emergency Release Cord

One of the ways someone can get into your garage is by pulling the emergency release cord. A coat hanger is easily fed through the top of the door and able to pull the cord loose. In order to secure it, use a zip tie to secure it to the bar it hangs from. You can still pull the cord when you need to use it, but it will make it impossible for someone to break in that way.

Consider Installing a Camera

As another way to safeguard your home, consider installing a camera on the outside of your home. You can attach it to the end of your house to give you a good look across the front of the garage. In fact, it is a good idea to put cameras at every entry point. Set the camera up to alert you when there is motion.

There are many options on the market such as Ring. These are easily installed and simple to set up.

They sent Doug Fussell out to my house on the day after Christmas! I had only called them three days before! Doug was a premier technician, very thorough and very efficient. I expected him to take two days, since he was replacing two doors and adding openers on each door. He only took the daylight hours of one day! I could not believe how fast he was! In addition, he thoroughly taught me how to use the remote openers. I highly recommend them to anyone!

We just bought a home and this company was so understanding as I had to change the appointment time a few times. Then the tech came out and was so kind and helpful. I could not have asked for a better experience and will suggest them to anyone who needs work done on their garage door!

positive reviews

My garage door broke on a Saturday night as I was getting ready to leave for a holiday party. Kelvin was here within 30 minutes. He reviewed everything with me that was happening with my door. He gave me the estimates of what was immediately needed to be done in order for my door to raise and then what I will need to have done very soon. I could see all the problems he pointed out to me and I decided to have everything done. He completed everything that night. I was very satisfied with Kelvin’s professionalism and the work he did. Thank you again.
